Arnold
Charles
Mar 13, 1941 — Apr 26, 2024
Arnold Charles was born the second of seven children on March 13, 1941, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti to the late Delivra Charles and Rose Cervina Charles (Durolin). As a young man he migrated to Nassau, Bahamas where he worked as a laborer in the Straw Market. Later, he would immigrate to the United States in search of a better life for himself and his young family.
Settling in Miami, Florida fifty years ago, he met his future partner and bride, Rosezena Handfield.
"Charles" as friends and family called him, leaves a legacy as the first link of the Charles Family Tree in the United States. Navigating the challenges of a new country and culture, he worked tirelessly to provide for not only his children but the extended family as a whole. He retired as a roofing technician after decades tolling in the Florida sun.
His charm and smile were endearing. A no-nonsense type of person, he was a stern man, a counselor, and mentor to many. He enjoyed working in the yard, beautifying his properties with fruit bearing and flowering plants. His mango and avocado trees were his pride, as he loved to share their annual yield with friends and family. In his down time, he would regularly be found sitting on the porch enjoying the warm breeze and observing the neighborhood activities.
On the morning of April 26th, 2024, "Charles" was given much needed relief from months of pain and hospitalizations and departed from our presence. Leaving a lasting imprint on his family.
He is survived by his wife and love of forty years Rosezena Charles; daughters: Janette (Kenneth) and Anola; sons: Larry (Cynthia), Paul, and Sheldo; siblings: Jonas, Louis, Jeane, and Elionse; grandchildren: Crystal Handfield Wade, Kenneth (Marquisianna), Dr. Chelsea Handfield, Demyia, Joseph, and Sierra; and great-granddaughters Lenox Faye Wade, Marvellee and Keleigh-Jay.
Also mourning his passing are Winifred Sands and family, numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of other family and friends.
