Bridgette Ann
Nixon
Jan 20, 1967 — Feb 15, 2024
Bridgette Ann Nixon (Ann Bridgette Smith-Lawe) was born January 20, 1967, to King Richard Nixon of Farmers Cay, Exuma and Shirley Margaret (Fitzgerald) Nixon of Williamstown, Exuma, in the island of Nassau, Bahamas. She was the 8th child of this blessed union and the youngest girl. She attended primary school at St. Thomas More and secondary school at St. Aquinas College in Nassau, Bahamas.
In her early years, Bridgette always displayed a joyful and playful personality and was affectionately nicknamed "Bubble Gum" by her classmates. She was multitalented and participated in a host of extracurricular activities, including sports and theater. In her youth, she enjoyed playing all types of sports, such as basketball, volleyball, softball, and swimming. She also loved roller skating and bike riding. In her early teenage years, Bridgette took instructions in modern dance at the Bahamas National School of Dance. She also had a natural talent for acting and she along with her sister Patrice would create and perform skits for the family. She also greatly enjoyed her Bahamian culture and music and was known to be a Junkanoo "Valley girl".
Bridgette, loaded with ambition and courage, decided to venture to the United States of America to pursue her education in the field of Health. She successfully completed her education and graduated from Lindsey Hopkins Technical College becoming a Dental Assistant. After graduation, she obtained a position with Miami Dade County's Jackson Memorial Hospital System in their Oral Surgery Department. It was there that she was able to hone her skills as a Dental Assistant to the degree in which she was able to help many of the new Dentists and Dental Surgeons as they gained their experience in the field.
Throughout her life, Bridgette always had a love for baking, cooking, and serving others. She regularly opened her home with a warm, home cooked meal to her family, friends, and even strangers. She was known for making the best Guava Duff, the national dessert of The Bahamas and a Bahamian favorite! Family and friends would often call for her recipe along with other popular Bahamian dishes.
Bridgette was raised in the Catholic faith as a child and was always taught to reverence the Lord. As an adult, she had a life changing encounter with the Lord in her apartment one night and she dedicated her heart and life to the Lord Jesus becoming a Born Again Christian. It was shortly after this that she felt a strong call to evangelism and began the Mt.16:15 season of her life. Doing the work of a missionary,
she went "in to all the world" to preach the Good News of Jesus Christ to every creature. She along with her cousin Dearlyn Darville began to go on missionary journeys to share the message of Jesus Christ. They would go into hospitals and pray for the sick, they would minister to anyone who needed healing and deliverance that God would allow to cross their paths. They traveled to several of the Bahamian Family Islands and Freeport. She also traveled with her sister in Christ and longtime ministry friend, Minister Flora Beason, on several evangelistic assignments to reach the lost. Bridgette always shared the Gospel of Jesus Christ to anyone that she met and encouraged them to serve the Lord. Even in her later years as she was physically unable to get around as she desired this didn't stop her from sharing the Gospel and praising God. She was always on a spiritual fast, or prayer call and enjoyed watching services virtually.
On February 15, 2024, Bridgette Ann Nixon transitioned from this life into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Bridgette was a loving wife, mother, sister, auntie, cousin, friend, co-worker, co-laborer, and sister in Christ. She was giving, loving, kind, forgiving, encouraging, bold, strong and a warrior for Christ. She fed all who were hungry, she opened her home to those in need and she prayed for those who struggled that God would bring them healing and strength. She will always be remembered and her legacy of faith and boldness in God will be continued through all of us who love the Lord.
Bridgette was preceded in death by her late husband Kingsley Lawe.
