In Loving Memory of

Don P. "Donnie" Bennett, known affectionately to family and friends, passed away on April 27, 2024. He was born on September 2, 1949, in Key West, Florida to the late Leonard Bennett and Juanita Williams Steward-Bennett.

Donnie attended Douglas High School, an all-black school in Key West, until 1965 when it was integrated. He then continued his education at Key West High School, graduating in 1967. After high school, Donnie proudly served his country in the military, enlisting in 1969. He served with distinction, spending time stationed in Germany and bravely serving in the Vietnam War from 1970 to 1971.

After his military service, Donnie returned to Key West and married his childhood sweetheart, Clarice Gates, in 1972. They relocated to Fall River, Massachusetts, before settling in Miami in 1976. Donnie worked diligently at the post office for nearly three decades, retiring in 2009.

Donnie was a member of Freemasonry (Mason), a fraternal organization that promotes brotherhood and community service.

Donnie's love for his family, especially his grandchildren, was immeasurable. His granddaughter Khassidy affectionately called him "Hop Along," a nickname that brought smiles to all who heard it.

Donnie is survived by his children Donneisha P. Bennett, Destiny D. Rivas, and Khambrel L. Bennett, his grandchildren Kayla Givens, Keomi Givens, Jr., Jakari Blackman, Khassidy Bennett, and Kha'Maree Bennett.  Siblings - Brothers Gregory (Deborah) Bennett and Rudolph Bennett, his Sister Noil Bennett Rucker. He is preceded in death by his wife Clarice Bennett, sisters Avis Joan Bennett Roberts, Sharon Bennett and brother Gary Bennett. Donnie is also survived by one Aunt Jackie Stewart Roberts, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

In addition to his military and professional accomplishments, Donnie will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his unwavering love, and his sense of humor. He leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience that will continue to inspire those who knew him
