Obituary

ELDER JOYCE E. MOORE

Elder Joyce E. Moore was born November 11, 1952, to the late Mr. Elbert Williams Sr. and Mrs. Alberta Jones.

At an early age, she learned about Christ and was baptized by the late Reverend Willis of Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Louisville Kentucky.  She received her education in Louisville, Kentucky through Jefferson County Public Schools.

As a young woman, she relocated to Boston where she met her "good thing", William Moore Sr. They got tired of the cold weather, packed up, and moved to Miami, Florida in 1980, where they were married.   This blended family formed two children, William Moore Jr. and Jackie Williams-Greene.

Professionally, Elder Moore was employed at Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Department of Transportation for over twenty-five years.  She loved her job, first being a School Bus Driver for Special Needs students, then being promoted to Field Operation Specialist.  She loved people and helping others. She didn't like to see people mistreated or her union contract violated, so she ran for Union Officer and became the Vice President of Transportation for AFSCME Union Local 1184, where she diligently served all non-instructional employees of the School Board. No issue or call went unanswered, no case was too big or small. She worked a lot of early mornings and late nights. She just loved to help and serve people, and she did it with dignity and respect.  Elder Moore retired in 2016 but couldn't stay away. She returned to the district in 2023, as a Bus Attendant at North Transportation Center. She often would say her job was the platform God gave her to let people know of His Grace and Mercy.

Elder Moore was a longtime, dedicated, and devoted member of Logos Baptist Church, previously under the leadership of Pastor Keith Butler, where she was ordained as an Elder.  Now under the leadership of her Godson, Pastor Robert L. Stephens, III, Elder Moore continued to serve in ministry with gladness and joy, willing to do whatever she was called upon to do, without a second thought.  She drew people in with her genuine love and constant encouragement, using her own challenges and victories to remind others that "God is able, and if He did it for her, He surely would do it for them." Her warm and bright smile and the joy of the Lord on her face – gave the reassurance anyone needed. She served faithfully in several ministries, including the Food Share, Ronald McDonald House, Elder to Hospitality, and as the AP to the Pastor.  She loved her church and her church family, especially her Pastor. Everyone called him Pastor, but to her, he was her "big head boy". She would call him every morning and if he didn't answer she would just keep calling back-to-back until he picked up and when he did, she would say, "Boy when I call you better pick up, I don't care who you talking to answer me don't make me come over there."

Elder Moore was loved by so many but to her family she was a wife, mother, sister, Nana, GiGi, sister-in-law, a shoulder to cry on, and an advice giver even when you didn't ask for it. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, relentless love of God, and the love and wisdom she shared. She was the glue that kept her family together and she will truly be missed.

On March 25, 2025, Elder Moore's battle was over and her victory was won. She fought a good fight, and she finished her course.
