Ernest Smith, Jr., affectionately known as Buddy, passed away on August 13, 2024, at the age of 71. He was born on November 18, 1952, in Interlachen, Florida, and spent his later years residing in Miami, Florida. Ernest was a beloved father to his children, Melissa Porter, Barry Bryant, Teeki Smith, and Ernest Smith III. He took immense pride in his role as a grandfather to his numerous grandchildren, including Donniel Keys, Danielle Keys, Skykeveia Porter, Danesha Keys, Ronneveia Hall, Khiari Smith, Larry Holiday, Assata Floyd, Christeria Godfrey, Raniyah Floyd, Shelton Floyd, Christopher Godfrey, Sheldon Floyd, Jahmarcris Godfrey, and Selassie Floyd. He was also the beloved brother-in-law to Betty Hudson, Betty Harrell, Aaron Combs,Terrence Combs and Sabrina Combs. Ernest cherished his relationship with all of his family.The son of Minda Hampton and Ernest Smith Sr., Ernest was the cherished sibling of Earnestine Cunningham, Willemema Campbell, Elizabeth Sharpe, Walter Smith, Lillian Glass, Edward Smith, and Wayne Smith. He was deeply loved by his partner, Joann Harrell.A graduate of Interlachen High School, Ernest dedicated his career to Ric-man Construction and Signal Technology. He was known for his hard work and commitment, earning respect among his peers and supervisors. His vibrant personality shone through in his many hobbies; he enjoyed fishing, attending football games, and sharing his passion for music as a DJ for friends and family. A devoted fan of the Buffalo Bills, Ernest also loved truck drag racing and was known for his infectious spirit that made every gathering lively.Ernest had a unique way of impacting the lives of those around him, often sharing funny stories that brought laughter and joy. He was always there to lend a helping hand to his neighbors and friends, embodying a spirit of generosity and kindness. His favorite sayings, "That's bullshit" and "A mind is a terrible thing to waste," reflected his straightforward nature and belief in the importance of education and integrity.Ernest will be missed dearly by all who knew him, but his memory will live on in the hearts and stories of his many family members and friends.
