Obituary

Freddie M. Hattaway was born June 24,1937, in Hamilton, Georgia to the late Rufus and Lucille Jones. Her early education began in Providence, which was a one classroom school. After completing studies at Providence, she attended Carver High School. Freddie relocated to Miami, living with her aunt Alberta Manning, and enrolled into Miami Northwestern, graduating in 1957. She was loaded with ambition and thriving for success. Freddie graduated from Miami-Dade Community College nursing program and became a registered nurse.


The thrive continued, and she graduated from Florida International University on April 22, 1986, with her B.S. Degree of Health Services Administration. She worked at North Miami General Hospital and several others in the Dade and Broward County areas. With a wealth of knowledge and the gift of sharing it, she became very successful in A.L. Williams, which is now known as Primerica Financial Services, where she was a Regional Vice President. Her educational journey continued which resulted in her being licensed by the state of Florida Insurance Commission and Treasurer, Investment Securities, and American Reverse Mortgage. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Stars and a landlord with several residential properties in the Miami Gardens area. Through all the education and career paths, she had an undying love for sewing. Everything she wore to church, business meetings, or banquets, were of her own custom designs.

Freddie was a God loving and spiritual woman, who loved to sing God's praise. She was baptized in her early years at Friendship Baptist Church in Hamilton, and later became a member of First Baptist Church in Opa Locka, FL. By the 70's, she joined New Way Fellowship Baptist Church, under the leadership of Reverend Billy Baskin, and she served faithfully in the music ministry where she would lead songs in the choir and was the director of the children's choir. Freddie later worshipped and joined Dayspring Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Michael Roan, until she was physically unable to return for services. That didn't stop her from singing God's praises or watching services virtually.

On January 29, 2024, Freddie Mildred Hattaway transitioned from this life. She was preceded in death by her parents: Rufus and Lucille Jones, aunt, Alberta Manning, an adopted son: Darian Hunter; and sister: Bertha Lee Jones (preceded her in death.

Freddie leaves to mourn three biological children: Michelle Trimble (Gary), Tony Vickers (Linda), and Rossicia Allen (Deborah Burton); one adopted sons, Stephon Hunter (Monique) that was her nephew; seven grandchildren: Jameelah Trimble, Tanika Vickers, Shareekah Bennett (Charles), Tahlia Vickers, Antonisha Vickers, Stephon Hunter Jr., and Demijah Burton-Jones; two great-grandchildren: Aayan Johnson and Zaleah Bennett; three sisters: Annie Ruth Passmore, Betty Jones, Joann Jones; a dear and spiritual friend, Vernadides Cage and a host of loving relatives and friends
