On November 29, 1931, Geraldine Wells Jones was born in Fitzgerald Georgia, to the late Isaiah and
Annie Wells. She was the oldest of eight children.
A Time To Learn and Grow
Although born in Georgia, Geraldine grew up in Coconut Grove, Florida and attended George
Washington Carver High School. She graduated in 1950 and immediately entered the workforce. She
began working with her mom at a young age cleaning houses in Coral Gables and later worked as a
custodian for Miami Dade County Public Schools until 1976. While working for MDCPS, Geraldine
began taking accounting courses. This effort shifted her career from cleaning to being an Accounting
and Payroll Clerk with Keyes Realty for over 15yrs. After working tirelessly for several years,
Geraldine retired in 1992.
A Time to Live and Love
As a young woman, Geraldine married Willie Jones. Together, they raised five beautiful children.
Geraldine loved being a mother to her children and to those who needed "motherly love". She was a
stern, yet loving disciplinarian mother whose heart and home were always open. She was active and
present in her children's lives and instilled good values and morals. Her greatest joy in retirement was
traveling to visit her daughter Dina when she played basketball at the University of South Alabama.
Geraldine was also a great cook. She loved to read books especially the Bible and do crossword
puzzles and Sudoku. There are so many good memories of our beloved Geraldine, far too many to
mention. Each of these memories will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
A Time To Die
The words of the song, "May the Work I've Done, Speak for Me" resonate with the life of Geraldine
Wells Jones. Her generous and loving spirit will forever remain in the hearts of her family and those
whose lives she touched. Geraldine peacefully passed away on January 11, 2025, at Hialeah Hospital
at the loving age of 93.
