In loving memory of Geraldine Wright, whose radiant spirit illuminated the lives of all who knew her, a legacy of boundless love, unwavering strength, and profound kindness is left behind.
Born on September 18, 1946, in the heart of Miami, Florida, Geraldine's journey began under the loving guidance of her parents, Eugene P. Thompson and Elouise Monroe. Growing up in the vibrant community of Brownsville, she embarked on her path with grace and determination, attending Bethune Elementary, Dorsey Junior High, Brownsville Middle School, and Northwestern Senior High School. Her high school years were adorned with achievements, where she shone brightly as the captain of the majorette team and a dedicated member of the R.O.T.C. Program, graduating in 1964 with a heart full of dreams.
After graduating, Geraldine joined the United States Army, ready to serve her country. It was at Fort Rucker, Alabama, where she crossed paths with Captain Theodore Wright, who was also serving in the Army. The couple married on June 6, 1966, in Teaneck, New Jersey.
Together, Geraldine and Theodore traversed the globe, sharing precious moments as they welcomed their cherished children into the world. From the embrace of Hamburg, Germany to the warmth of Teaneck, New Jersey, and the vastness of Fort Benning, Georgia, their family flourished with the arrival of Stephanie in 1968, Valerie in 1970, Michael in 1973, and David in 1977, each child a testament to their enduring love and devotion.
Geraldine's indomitable spirit and thirst for knowledge led her to pursue higher education, earning her bachelor's degree in business administration from California State University in 1977, followed by a master's degree in Social Work from Barry University. Her commitment to learning mirrored her dedication to service, as she lent her talents to various institutions, including the California Public School System, Barry University, and the American Red Cross.
In 1981, Geraldine and her children relocated back to Miami, Florida where they called home. Beyond her professional endeavors, Geraldine's heart overflowed with compassion for her community. Whether organizing fundraisers for charities, leading the Girl Scouts, or earning the title of Miss NAACP in 1980, she embodied the essence of generosity and benevolence.
Rooted in her faith, Geraldine found solace and strength in her relationship with God, a guiding light that illuminated her path throughout her life. Geraldine grew up in the Catholic Church and attended the Lady of the Lakes in Miami Lakes, Florida. Her unwavering devotion to her family knew no bounds, as she nurtured her children with boundless love and unwavering support, especially her beloved son David, whom she cared for with infinite tenderness.
As a grandmother, Geraldine's love knew no bounds, as she delighted in spoiling her grandchildren with the joys of life's finer moments. From lavish dinners to cultural escapades, she showered them with affection and wisdom, instilling in them the belief that they could achieve anything they set their minds to.
In the twilight of her life, Geraldine's heart found solace in the companionship of JD Mack, whose love illuminated her world with joy and laughter. Together, they shared cherished moments and explored the wonders of the world, their bond a testament to the enduring power of love.
