Obituary

A Time to Be BornThere was jubilation in the lives of the late Mr. Dan F. Efford and Mrs. Tommie L. Efford as they awaited the arrival of their much anticipated fifth child. After the birth of four adorable baby girls (Dorothy, Katie, Gloria and Sarah) anticipation was extremely high. On September 30, 1958, they welcomed the arrival of a handsome baby boy who they proudly named Herbert Napoleon Efford.A Time to PlantWhile still young, Herbert accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized in the Name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  Herbert was a graduate of Miami Jackson Senior High School and furthered his education at Miami Dade Community College. Close family friends always referred to him as "Professor."Herbert was employed with Citi Bank where he was considered an outstanding employee of almost 30 years.A Time to LoveWhile attending church services in Belle Glade, Florida, Herbert was smitten by a young lady by the name of Lelia Allen. He pursued her and on June 9, 1984, she became his wife. From this union three children were born: Darryl, Jocelyn, and David. In Herbert's spare time he was an avid reader of science fiction novels and his love for comic books was unparalleled. Ever present in his children's life, Herbert was always there for them. He also enjoyed watching movies with his family.A Time to DieOn Monday, September 23, 2024, at approximately 4:04 am, God in His infinite wisdom, saw fit to transition Herbert from earth to glory. Herbert's humble, yet brave spirit, took flight and is presently resting on God's Celestial shore. So, we, his loved ones, friends, and associates, have gathered here today, to pay our last respects to his earthly body. We say, "Good night, Herbert, rest on, for we will see you in the morning." Herbert was preceded in death by his beloved wife Lelia Allen Efford, his parents, two sisters, Dorothy and Katie, and a nephew, Carlos Efford.A Time to CherishHerbert touched our lives in one manner or another. These precious memories of his life are stored in the archives of our minds which we keep in our hearts. Those left to cherish precious memories, and his legacy of love and devotion are his children; Darryl (Tamara), Jocelyn and David; grandchild Janessa; sisters, Gloria Efford and Sarah Somerset; nieces: Latavia Strozier, Tamira Myles, and Jasmine Brown and many others who genuinely loved him.
