In Loving Memory

IDA MAE STARKS

Ida Mae Starks was born January 20, 1942, in Manning, South Carolina to the late Mr. Jake Gold Wells and Mrs. Annie Mae Wells. She was one of eleven children born to the union. Ida received her education in Manning and graduated from Manning High School in the 1960s.

At an early age, Ida learned to sing. She had a beautiful singing voice and sang in quartet groups while living in South Carolina. Growing up in Manning, Ida and her siblings learned the value of hard work at an early age; these values would be the foundation of her work ethic in life.

As a young woman in her early 20s, Ida relocated to Miami, Florida, where she made her home. She later met and married Matthew Starks, and the couple was blessed with five beautiful children. Ida was a faithful wife and mother, and her children were her greatest joy.

Ida was a longtime member of the Peaceful Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Using the gift God gave her, she sang in Choir #1. Ida loved to sing.

Professionally, Ida worked as a Presser with Mark's Quality Cleaners for more than 20 years.  Dedicated, reliable, and honorable are just a few words to describe Ida as an employee. She was all of that and more.

Today, as we remember Ida, we remember her witty and fun-loving personality. She was an energetic, praying woman, a disciplinarian to her children and grands, and a woman of great integrity. She was a friend to many and always willing to lend a helping hand. `She loved to sing, dance, and cook – and she was great at them all. There are so many wonderful memories of our beloved Ida, far too many to mention. These memories will linger on in the hearts of those who loved her.

On February 27, 2025, Ida Mae Starks departed this life.
