Murphy
Apr 25, 1931 — Jan 11, 2024
I have a good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. (2 Timothy 4:7)
Brother James Curtis Murphy Sr., affectionately known as "He", was born April 25,1931, in a small-town in Marion, Alabama to the late Willie and Hattie Murphy. He was the 2nd oldest of nine children.
James received his education through the Perry County Public School system. He was baptized at an early age at the Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church. While in Alabama, he met the love of his life, the late Eleanor Reed. They were united in marriage on September 16,1951 in Marion, Alabama, to their union ten children were born. In 1955, the couple relocated to Miami, Florida where they established their loving home.
James was no stranger to hard work. With a strong work ethic, he was a loyal employee for Airtech for over 40 years.
Beyond the walls of their home, Brother James began to lay the foundation in the community by joining Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in 1984. He and his family joined the Mount Olive Primitive Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Elder Frazier Arnold, Jr. Brother Murphy was an excellent example of a Christian man who was truly committed to being a servant of the Lord. He faithfully served in the Male Choir, as Head Custodian, Parking Lot Ministry, and the Male Ushers' Ministry.
Come and rain or shine, you'll find him on his post. Often, he was the first to come and the last to leave. He always had a smile for anyone he met. His gentleness and genuine love for people is an inspiring example of Christ's Love for us. His devotion to his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, the neighborhood kids, his pastor, and the Mount Olive Church family is a living testimony to a life well spent.
