Obituary

Leona Harmon was born on October 23, 1951, in Miami, Florida to Leo Anton, Sr and Willie Mae Anton. Leona received her education through Miami-Dade County Public Schools and graduated from Miami Jackson Senior High in 1969. She loved her school and was an active member of the Alumni Class of 1969.

After high school, Leona entered the workforce and was employed with the Flagler Federal Bank and the State of Florida Department of Corrections. Finally, she earned a position with Miami Dade County, as a Secretary for the Community Relation Board and Miami Dade Water and Sewer. She retired after 28 years.

Leona had many amazing accomplishments in her personal and professional life. Yet, none compared to 1970, at the birth of her son, Emmett and later her daughter Latasha. Leona was a wonderful mother who shared a close bond with her children, especially her son. She was proud of them both and took joy in raising them to be the adults they are today.

Leona grew up in a loving and religious home. Her father was a minister and instilled the love of God and all good things into her. As a young girl, she was a longtime member of the Good Shepherd Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor David Epley. As an adult, she remained spiritually grounded and would visit local churches from time to time.

Leona loved giving back to the community and showering love all around. Several years ago, she enrolled in a "Clown School '' at Hollywood Hills High School where she learned how to be a clown. This class resulted in her extracurricular activities of being a clown for kid's birthday parties and events. Known as "Harriet D Clown," she would provide face painting, balloons, games, and entertainment. She was a delight to see!

Today, as we remember Leona, we remember a hard-working, fun-loving mother who adored her children and loved people within the community. She was a private woman who loved to travel around the world to places like Europe, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, New Orleans, New York and Switzerland, which was her favorite. She also loved watching television, especially General Hospital. There are so many good memories of Leona, far too many to name; but each of these memories will give us strength as we go on without her.

On December 5, 2023, Leona Harmon departed this life. She is survived by her two children: Emmett Moss and Latasha Moss, brother, Leo Anton Jr.; and grandchild Deandre Campbell and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and loving friends.
