Brother Leroy Gillis was born October 2, 1935, to the late Clifford & Eloise McDew Gillis in Fitzgerald, Georgia. He attended local public schools, and at the age of 17 he joined the United States Army. After leaving the Army he moved to Philadelphia, PA. There he became a father of 5 children, he later moved to Miami, Fl. where he became a Tractor Trailer Driver. Brother Leroy has driven all over the United States. The company went out of business and he later became employed with Hertz Car Rental as a car detailer. He was a dedicated employee for many years before retiring. Brother Leroy served as treasurer of "The Greater Miami Social Club." Mrs. Lillie Barr introduced him to Gold Coast Church of God by Faith Inc, where the Pastor at that time was Emeritus Elder William Brazil. He later became a Deacon in Training, by the late Deacon William J. Canady. Brother Leroy devoted his life to serving God and worked faithfully in many ministries. He served as a Deacon at Fellowship of Praise Church of God by Faith Inc. under Pastor Dr. Larry E. Lee. He served as a member of Faith Truth and Deliverance Church of God by Faith Inc. Brother Leroy served on The Florida East Coast District, under the late, Superintendent Elder Dr. John Robinson Jr., and the current Superintendent Elder John Robinson II. While in Atlanta, Brother Leroy became the Miami District under the leadership of Superintendent Elder Jimmy and Leading Lady Mayetta McDuffie. At the time of his passing, he served under the leadership of Pastor Cleveland Roberts, III. Brother Leroy enjoyed his time in church and was very faithful to every leadership he served under. Brother Leroy was the oldest father "88" on the "Miami District" Church of God by Faith Inc. He was a very quiet person, who loved to bar-b-que, cook, and eat. Before his health failed, Brother Leroy was very helpful. He always made sure Mrs. Barr was okay even during his sickness. The Lord called Brother Leroy home on July 9, 2024, while at Jackson Memorial Hospital North.
