In Loving Memory

Leroy Maynard, born September 10, 1938, in Barbados, West Indies.  Sunset January 17, 2024.  He was a loving son, brother, uncle, husband, father of two daughters Sheila Roesler, Colleen Maynard and grandfather of Mario Fingall and an uncle of Lorna Scantlebury, Verna Hewitt, and Omar Worrell-Maynard along with a host of other nieces and nephews.Leroy Maynard (aka Maynard) was the kind of man that marched to his own drum.  Whatever he put his mind to do, he did.  His main desire was to make his mom happy.

He loved working so in his teenage years, he worked at the neighborhood bakery.  At eighteen, he became a Merchant Marine that took him around the world several times over 47 years until retirement.  If you visited his home, you would see many souvenirs from many countries.  Only after you see the display of his souvenirs and you asked, will he give you a story about them and a few more stories of his travels.  He definitely wasn't a bragger.  He received an award by the United States government for his service on the ship during the gulf war.He loved cleaning up and hitting the streets.  He also loved entertaining, and this is one thing all his friends will agree on.  He fed anyone that came into his home.  If you stayed overnight, you would get the royal treatment for breakfast.  His friendship was priceless.  He treated his friends like family, and they loved his generosity, and in turn they were kind to him.

He had a soft spot for those in need. Leroy wasn't interested in public office, but he sure kept up with politics.  Nor was he interested in a position in the church where he was a member, but he could win an office if he wanted to for sure.  Why? Because he never met a stranger.  Especially as he sat in front of his home.  He spoke to everyone as they passed by. He kept the conversation going and would invite them to sit with him or to come in for a drink. Courtesy and entertainment could be his middle names...— A joke, a drink, a meal, a conversation, a friendship. Leroy recognized the situation he was in concerning his health.  He did not like it but thank God he received the care in his old age that he gave to others during his good years.
