Leroy Allen McKinney Jr., of Miami, Florida, formerly of Newark, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at the age of 67.

Born in Miami on March 1, 1958, to the late Leroy McKinney Sr. and Thelma L. McKinney, Leroy lived a life defined by courage, humor, and unwavering faith.

Raised in Newark, Leroy graduated from Central High School and proudly served in the United States Army beginning in 1975. His commitment to service continued throughout his life, culminating in a distinguished 20-year career as a Correctional Officer with South Florida Corrections following his graduation from the police academy in 1995.

While Leroy was a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend, he was also the son of a Bahamian father and a strong, nurturing mother. He embodied humility, resilience, and faith throughout his life. He was known for his perseverance through adversity, his generous spirit, and a smile that could light up any room. Leroy never judged others, choosing instead to lift those around him with kindness and grace.

His life was a testament to the power of love, devotion, and service. Whether in uniform, at home, or among friends, Leroy gave his best in every endeavor. He leaves behind a legacy of strength, loyalty, and compassion that will continue to inspire all who knew him.

Though he has received his wings, Leroy's impact endures in the hearts and memories of those he touched. We honor his life as a beacon of grace and courage, and find comfort in knowing that his spirit lives on through the generations he helped shape.
