Mary Jane Patterson was born on April 16, 1940, in Union Springs, Alabama (Bullock County) to the late Jimmy S. Thornton and Janie L. Thornton.

Mary was educated in the Bullock County Public Schools, in Alabama and later in life when she relocated to Miami, Florida she worked in the field of education as a teacher's assistant.

Mrs. Patterson was a longtime and faithful member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church of Brownsville, under the pastoral leadership of Reverend Larrie M Lovett, II.

She was married to Allen Patterson for more than 57 years. Together, the couple shared a wonderful life and raised three beautiful children: Alan, Leonard, and Veronder, and two grandchildren, Flame and Jimmy, who they loved dearly.

On Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at Highline Post Acute Nursing Home in Denver, Colorado, Mary departed this life. Family members who preceded her in death are Dorothy M. Jackson, Betty J. Thompson, James A. Thornton, and Jimmie Lee Thornton.
