Melba Mildred Outler was born on September 1, 1941, to the parents of Melvin Outler and Martha Spencer Outler. She attended the public school system graduating from Northwestern High School in Miami, Fl. She received her Associates of Arts degree in 1962 from Dade County Junior College, graduating on the Dean's list. Her class was the first graduating class of the college. She furthered her education at Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University in Tallahassee, Florida where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Education.Melba moved to Brooklyn, New York where among various positions held, she was an Editor of Urban Studies, and Director of New Product Development with Holt, Rinehart and Winston in NY, New York. She was part of the National Convention of Teachers of Math and the International Reading Association.She was a very loving and kind person, especially to her family and friends and who also volunteered her time and service to the Partnership for the Homeless in New York City. She became a member of the Flatbush Congregational Church in Brooklyn, NY and was the recipient of the C.E. Achievement Award in 1998. This award recognizes individuals who have contributed in outstanding ways to Christian Education.Her hobbies included traveling most especially to Paris, sewing, creating Biblical and Black History crossword puzzles and quizzes and writing children's short stories and plays for Churches' Children Sunday School.After retiring, Melba moved back to Miami, Fl and continued to serve her Master and help others until her health failed. On October 5, 2024, a beautiful, fruitful life came suddenly to a close. She was preceded in death by her parents: Melvin Outler and Martha Spencer Outler; brother Joseph "Black Prince" Outler; brother-in-law, Roland Ferebee, and nephew, Joe Louis Outler. Melba leaves to cherish her memories, her dear sister, Carolyn Outler Ferebee of Atlanta, GA; two brothers, Rodriguez Outler of Miami, FL, Edward Outler (Cathy) of Atlanta, GA, six nephews; Patrick (Angela), Darren (Arika), Tarrod, Rodriguez Jr, Xavier (Alma), and Christian; two nieces; T'Pau and Kyndall; eleven great nieces: Aquashia, Desire, Jase, Breanna, Stephanie, Zena, Lakeya, Kai, Marvel, Talor and Zaharia; eight great nephews: Elijah, Larry, Anthony, Jadelen, Tyrek, Bernard, Zion, and D'Angelo; very good sisters in love; God daughter, Natalye Paquin, best friend; Jerry Owens, very good sister-in-love, Gail Outler, aunts and uncles, and many loving cousins and devoted friends.
