Obituary

Edward Alonza Frierson was born to the late William Theophilus Frierson "WT" and the late Mae Vesta Frierson on October 15, 1945, in Waycross, Georgia. He was the youngest of four children and raised in Waycross until the age of twelve, when the family relocated to the historic Overtown area of Miami, Florida. Edward attended Booker T. Washington Senior High School, Miami-Dade Community College, and Jacksonville Theological Seminary.

Due to segregation in the 1960's, growing up in Overtown was difficult.  This forced Edward into a life in the streets until the early 1980's when his eldest sister, Bishop Michaelane Sims-Lightbourn invited him to her church, Believer's Life Ministries.  He received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior until the call from God as Pastor.  From that moment, he vowed to live for God for the rest of his life.  Which he did with his new motto being "For God I live and for God I'll die."

In 1984, he met his soulmate Desirae Brown and her three children, and they completed their family of seven with the birth of Josiah and Anita, on the blessed soil of their shared faith. Their love story became a testament on June 20, 1992, when they became one in Holy Matrimony. Together, they built a haven of compassion, raising their children and welcoming their goddaughter, Tantania Darden and countless others who he treated as his own.

Edward drove trucks delivering meat and later a hot tub company delivering and installing as far as Orlando, Florida.  He then began his own home renovation company as Frierson Enterprise.  Enjoying working with his hands and assuring that his sons would know the craft of his trade so that in his words; "if they didn't want to pay someone to do the work or if they wanted to make extra money they would know how to." He renovated homes until his retirement.

He savored his mornings over steaming cups of Taster's Choice and the daily newspaper, never skipping crossword puzzles and later adding Sudoku. Edward was a jokester and very serious about his Miami Dolphins, Miami Heat, and the Miami Hurricanes. He would always call his best friends, William (Sam) Lewis, and L.C. Thrower, his cousin Brenda Evans and his son, Josiah about the game and often taking digs and one another if one was routing with an opposing team.

Even as his earthly journey drew to a close his faith remained his compass. Edward faced his twilight hours with grace and unwavering serenity, a testament to the life he lived in serving God and humankind. He was a fighter that fought all the days of his life, then when Cancer came knocking in 2007, and the doctor said he would die, he told cancer, the doctor, and death that God has the final say. When death came again on December 28, 2023, at 2:53 a.m., God told him to "Come and take your rest."

Edward answered God's call to rest, joining his sister Dr. Marilyn Thompson, who preceded him in death.

He leaves to cherish his legacy of love, etched in the hearts of his loving wife of 31 years, Elder Desirae A. Frierson, Daughters: Anita Frierson, Chantelle Hester (Linton), Rachelle Frierson-Brown (William); Sons: Pastor Josiah Frierson, Markus Brown, Charlie Brown (Tessa),Sister: Bishop Michealane Sims-Lightbourn (Reynold), Brother: William (Tuck) Frierson  along with host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors.
