Robert Earl Spence, Sr. was born on September 10, 1959, in Camilla, Georgia to the late Evelyn Johnson Spence and Joe Spence, Sr.  He was one of seven children born to this union and the baby of the boys.

Although Robert Sr., was born in Georgia, he grew up in Miami, Florida and was educated through Miami-Dade County Public Schools. He graduated from Miami Jackson Senior High in 1977.

In the 1980s, Robert Sr., met and married Ms. Sandra Mack. This union was blessed with two handsome boys. Later in life, Robert Sr. remarried Ms. Michelle McClain. Robert Sr. was blessed in many areas of his life, especially to have been the father of two children he was proud of and to have been loved by two wonderful women. He was a good father who was hard working, a provider, and a disciplinarian. Although he was strict and stern as a father, in the end he loved his boys – and they loved him in return.

Robert Sr. was no stranger to hard work, as he worked while in high school to help support the family, But in 1983, he began his career with Miami-Dade School Board. He worked in the maintenance department as a roofer. He was skilled in this area and often sought out to repair the roofing systems of many schools within the county. He worked for the county for 42 dedicated years, before becoming ill.

Robert Sr. began attending Mt Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, now under the leadership of Reverend W.L. Billy Strange, Jr. While he never joined, he visited frequently with his mother and sister.

Today, as we remember Robert Sr., we remember a man who said what he meant and meant what he said. He was stern and strict..., yet, he had a sense of humor and a fun side like no other! He loved his children and adored his grandchildren, and he enjoyed family outings, trips and getaways. He will be missed.

On February 9, 2024, Robert Earl Spence, Sr. departed this life. He was preceded in death by his parents Evelyn Johnson Spence and Joe Spence, Sr., and siblings: Geraldine Spence, Deloris Rodgers, and Freddy Spence.

He leaves behind cherished memories to his sons: Robert Earl Spence, II and Tavaris Young; four grandchildren: Demario Davis, Kiara Spence, Kayla Spence, Kyhlee Spence; three siblings: Gwentette Brown, Silvia Brown, and Joe Spence Jr., and a host of other relatives and friends.
