Shadrich Lewis
Lll
Apr 22, 1955 — Jun 8, 2025
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Shadrach Lewis III, affectionately known to many as "Shadrick." He was the son of the late Shadrach Lewis Jr. and Betty Katherine Ryan. Shadrick departed this life on June 8, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and family.
Born on April 22, 1955, in Miami, Florida, Shadrick grew up in a loving, close-knit family that nurtured his strong foundation in life. His early education began at Rainbow Park Elementary School, continued at North Dade Middle School, and progressed through both MacArthur High School and Miramar High School. During these formative years, Shadrick became known as a gifted athlete, most notably recognized as a powerful and strong running back on the football field. In addition to his athletic notability, Shadrick also developed a passion for weightlifting, which reflected his dedication, discipline, and inner drive for personal growth.
After high school, Shadrick entered the workforce with a strong sense of drive. In his early years, he worked proudly as a short-order cook at both Howard Johnson's and Denny's restaurant chains, earning a reputation for his warm personality, strong work ethic, and love for cooking. His skill with his hands later led him into home improvement, carpentry, and general repair work, becoming a true jack of all trades who could fix almost anything.
Shadrick went on to build a highly respected career with the State of Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), where he served as a Supervisor for Highway and Road Maintenance, specializing in concrete construction and repair. His leadership, expertise, and dedication to excellence earned him numerous awards and commendations, and his work on many projects throughout Florida brought him great recognition within his department. Shadrick was highly respected by his colleagues and supervisors, known not only for his skills but also for his integrity, humility, and outstanding work ethic. He retired after many years of faithful and honorable service.
Beyond his work, Shadrick was known for his quick wit, vibrant sense of humor, and joyful
personality. He had a gift for bringing laughter to any room, and his lively spirit left an unforgettable impression on all who knew him. A true ladies' man, he carried himself with confidence, charisma, and charm that was uniquely his own.
Shadrick also possessed a deeply giving heart. He was always willing to extend a helping hand, offer words of encouragement, or share whatever he had with others. His generosity and kindness touched countless lives, and his unselfish nature will be remembered by all who were blessed to know him.
Shadrick also maintained an intimate and personal relationship with God, which served as the foundation for his loving and giving nature. His faith was expressed not only through his words but also through his actions, as he regularly demonstrated compassion, humility, and generosity to those around him. For a season in his life, Shadrick actively participated in outreach work, extending help to those in need, embodying his strong spiritual values and desire to serve others with love.
Among his many passions, Shadrick was an avid baker who loved preparing sweet treats for family and friends. He was a dedicated Miami Dolphins fan, proudly representing his team year after year.
His love for music ran deep, with the legendary Prince standing as one of his favorite artists. Shadrick's personal style was as vibrant as his spirit - he was known for his love of bright colors, bold patterns, and unique fashion choices that always made him stand out in any room.
In his free time, Shadrick enjoyed collecting sports memorabilia such as baseball and football cards, as well as coins. These hobbies brought him great joy and reflected his appreciation for history and storytelling. As a young man, he also shared special moments with his father building model train sets, creating cherished memories that highlighted his love for craftsmanship and detail.
Shadrick especially loved to give his loved ones nicknames, a playful gesture that reflected his affection, humor, and deep bond with his family and friends. Each nickname carried its own special meaning and created lifelong memories.
One of the values that remained constant in his life was his deep pride in his family name. Shadrick took great pride in being a Lewis - a name that carried the rich heritage of his Black Seminole ancestry. As a descendant of Sammy Lewis of the Red Bays settlement on Andros Island, Bahamas, Shadrick honored the strength, resilience, and legacy of the Black Seminole people who paved the way for future generations.
He was the proud father of his daughter, Shadrica McCray (mother: Debra Dixon), son-in-law Andre McCray, and grandfather to his cherished grandson Edric Tookes, all of whom brought him immense joy and pride.
The family asks for your continued prayers and support during this time of remembrance. His humor, charm, generosity, craftsmanship, pride, and love will forever remain in our hearts.
