Obituary

Shana Javonie Johnson's story is one of love, resilience, and unwavering commitment to her family, faith, and country. Born on October 7, 1979, at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami to her biological mother, Diana Berry, Shana was soon after adopted by her loving parents, Ernestine R. Johnson and Earl I. Johnson. She grew up in a home filled with love and support, surrounded by her six siblings. Among them, she shared a special bond with her siblings Lisa and Jason, with whom she was closest.

Shana's passion for learning and excellence was evident from an early age. She excelled throughout her high school years and graduated in 1997. During her time in J.R.O.T.C., she formed a lifelong friendship with Shaniqua Thomas, a bond that would last over 30 years and become an integral part of Shana's journey.

After high school, Shana pursued a career in the United States Air Force as an intelligence analyst. Her journey eventually led her back home, where she fostered a romantic relationship that resulted in the birth of her two sons, Jamar William and Jamal William. In April 2002, Shana's dedication to her country called her back into service as a Military Police Officer. She served in both Iraq and Afghanistan, building deep, lasting connections with her fellow soldiers — her battle buddies — whose friendships would remain a cornerstone of her life.

Shana was deeply devoted to her faith and children. She single-handedly raised two remarkable young men, Jamar and Jamal, who followed in her footsteps by joining the United States Army. Her unwavering support and love guided them to success, both in their personal lives and their military careers.

Aside from her devotion to her children and faith, Shana was also a passionate entrepreneur, an accomplished chef, and a strong woman and friend to anyone who knew her. Her culinary talents were widely celebrated, and her parties were known for their warmth, fun, and sense of community. Shana had a way of bringing people together with her infectious energy, boundless laughter, and love for life. Her love for food, music, and sharing her advice and support left a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to cross her path.

Though her time on Earth was cut short, Shana's legacy lives on in her family and those who loved her. She is preceded in death by her loving parents, Earl and Ernestine Johnson, and her brother Braydon Johnson.

Shana is survived by her two sons, Jamar and Jamal, her wife Doreen, stepdaughter Alana, grandson Jasiah, daughter-in-law Jazmine, her biological mother, seven sisters, two brothers, seven godchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Shana will forever be remembered for her adventurous spirit, strong convictions, and unshakeable faith. She took immense pride in her family, particularly in the remarkable young men she raised. While she was most proud of her two sons, she also found joy in being a grandmother. She cherished the time spent with her family, particularly in the latter part of her life as she reconnected with her biological family. Her love was boundless, and it knew no limits, even in the face of her adoption.

Shana Javonie Johnson's spirit will live on through her children, grandchildren, and the many lives she touched. She may no longer be with us, but her love, laughter, and strength will remain the foundation for her family. Her legacy will continue to shine brightly, as the life of the party and a woman who brought light into the lives of all who knew her.
