Stephanie
Sands
Jan 12, 1960 — Sep 20, 2024
It is with profound sadness and a deep sense of loss that we announce the passing of our beloved Stephanie Fulton Sands, who left this world on Friday, September 20, 2024.''I was born on January 12, 1960 in Miami, Florida; the cherished daughter of the late Nathan "Big Bro" Fulton and Marion L. Spotford. From the very beginning, my presence filled the lives of those around me with joy and love. I was the first born and also the eldest grandchild.I attended school in Miami-Dade County and graduated from Miami Carol City Senior High School in 1978. I later went on to attend Barry University, where I obtained an Associates Degree.Throughout my life, I lived with kindness, generosity, and a boundless love for family, friends, and community. I built a life rooted in compassion, always extending a helping hand, a listening ear, and a kind word to anyone in need. To know me was to know someone who truly embodied the spirit of giving and selflessness. To know me also meant to know a lady who loved to "do lunch".A Life Well LivedI accepted God as my personal Lord and Savior at an early age. I was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church of Carol City and also joined the church choir.I was not only a source of love and comfort but also a person of great accomplishments, talents, and hobbies. I worked for The Department of Children and Families (HRS), in Finance, and in Real Estate. Most recently, I served as the Chief of Administration for the Trayvon Martin Foundation, where I spent many years dedicating my life working with the community, various agencies and organizations to facilitate the Foundation's mission of minimizing senseless gun violence, strengthening families through holistic support, and S.T.E.M. Education for women and minorities and mentoring.Beyond my professional accomplishments, I was known for my endless passion for serving the community. I recently became a member of Top Ladies of Distinction (TLOD). These simple pleasures were where I found my peace and happiness, and where I shared my greatest joys with others. I touched countless lives and left an indelible mark on the world.A Loving Family Member and FriendI was a devoted daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and a loyal friend. My family was my world, and I took pride in being some of the glue that held everyone together. Whether through family gatherings, holidays, or quiet moments spent together, I always found ways to make each person feel cherished, valued, and loved. For Christmas, I always made sure my loved ones felt special. To my family, I was a guiding light, offering wisdom, support, and unconditional love. I created a home filled with laughter, warmth, and the kind of love that makes a family strong and resilient. Those who were fortunate enough to call me a friend knew that I was always there, through thick and thin, ready with words of encouragement or a shoulder to lean on.I am survived by my three amazing children, Shakisha Harris and Shantanett Sands and Darion Sands, whom I adored and raised with endless love and care; four grandchildren Keymani Harris, Oxley Christiani III, Chrisette Christiani and Cornelius Miller Jr, who brought boundless joy into my life; parents, Marion and Ted Evans; siblings, Ronald Fulton, Mark Fulton, Sybrina Fulton, Yolanda Evans, and Tousha Hicks; nephews, Jahvaris Fulton and Ronquavis Fulton; aunts and uncles, Yvonne Greene (Jacob), Rhudine Wiley (Charlie), Erma President (Allen), Wadell Owens and Eleanor Owens; sister/cousin, Penelope Samuel; past partner for over 30 years, Gregory Sands; and a host cousins and friends. I am preceded in death by beloved father, Nathan Fulton; great-grandmother and grandmother, Leona "Big Mama" Tim and Nettie "Nana" Spotford; aunt, Leona Johnson; and nephew, Trayvon Martin, who all welcomed me with open arms into eternity.''A Legacy of LoveAs we gather to honor and celebrate my life, we remember not just my accomplishments, but the immeasurable love and light I brought into the world. My legacy lives on through the lives I've touched and the countless memories we hold dear.Though I am no longer with us in body, I will remain with us in spirit—forever a part of our hearts, our stories, and the love we share with others.
