Obituary

Stephon E. McGill was born on December 16, 1963, in Miami, Florida to the late Eugene and Rosa McGill. He was the second oldest of his siblings and grew up in Overtown on 14th Street and 3rd Avenue. Stephon was surrounded by a loving grandmother, who enforced Christian principles and aunts and uncles who helped hone Stephon's skills dealing with people and life in general. These life lessons would surely be needed later in Stephon's life.

As a youngster, Stephon stayed busy with school activities, the Boys Club and with Boy Scouts. During this time, in his adolescent years, Stephon was a member of Glendale Missionary Baptist Church, where he was baptized by Reverend Coates.

Stephon was a product of Miami-Dade County Public Schools and a proud graduate of Miami Jackson Senior High. After graduating, Stephon attended Bethune Cookman University for a year before returning home to join the US Air Force, where he spent two years. Stephon returned to Miami to join the City of Miami Police Department, as a Police Officer. He retired after 34 years of dedicated service.

Stephon was the father of six children. He was a dedicated father who loved his children as well as the children in the community. He mentored youth through the Kiwanis Club and Foster Care Parenting Programs by taking them on camping trips, fishing, jet skiing, and more. He also volunteered to coach several Little League football teams, and along with his successful entourage of coaches, they brought championships to Belafonte Tacolcy Center in Miami and other neighboring clubs.  He loved coaching. In retirement, Stephon loved playing billiards, archery, darts, and cycling. Stephon also loved to travel to various festivals and abroad, to Café Hoping, to just be a beach bum. Stephon was adventurous; he even lived in Vietnam for two years. Traveling, his hobbies, and spending time with his children and grandchildren were among his favorite things in life.

On March 28, 2025, Stephon succumbed to his illness of Pancreatic Cancer.
