Obituary

Queen Victoria's Journey began on January 23,1944, in the beautiful city of Key West Florida. She was born to the late Robert H. Butler and Jerline Elizabeth Sands Butler. Victoria, affectionately known as Vicky, is the fourth of six children born to this union.Victoria received her education from Frederick Douglas High School, where she participated in many different activities. She was a majorette, and a member of the girls' basketball team. Being extraordinarily well-rounded, she took home economics classes where she learned to be a domestic engineer. Vicky had the voice of an angel; she sang alto in the high school choir.

As a valiant tiger (the school's mascot) you could often hear her singing the mighty tiger song. She graduated in 1963.Ms. Butler furthered her education by obtaining certifications in nursing and administrative assistance from the Florida Keys Community College. For years she cared for countless patients at Monroe General Hospital. Nursing was natural to her as she became her mother's caretaker. To this day people are enthused about the quality of her work and the passion she had for it.In 1989, she changed career paths by accepting a position with the Department of Defense. Working at Boca Chica was more than a pleasure, we often laughed at the stories she would tell about the time she spent there. In 2014, she retired after 26 years of service. She  continued to have close relationships with many of her colleagues, until her untimely passing.

Vicky loved her community and was extremely active in it. Her dedication to serving led her to join the Order of the Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Florida Keys Democrats. Anyone who truly knew her understood her loyalty to the democratic party. Victoria was also a huge sports enthusiast and loved to cheer for the Miami Dolphins and heat teams. Additionally, she was a traveler. Along with some relatives and friends, she visited every Caribbean island except for Haiti. The cruise to Alaska was described as the vacation of a lifetime. Her parents raised her in the fear and admonition of the Lord, and from an early age she was a faithful member of the church. A true servant of God, she was a member of the usher's board, the board of trustees, and sang in the choir at Trinity Wesleyan Methodist Church. After a while she joined Saint James First missionary Baptist Church and became a deaconess. On Monday May 27, 2024, God saw her getting weary and decided to take her to his mansion in the sky.
