Willene
Ashley
Sep 5, 1953 — Mar 10, 2025
For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.
A time to be born and a time to die. A time to plant and a time to harvest. (Ecclesiastes 3:1-2)
A TIME TO BE BORN: Ms. Willene Ashley was born September 5, 1953 in Ocilla, Georgia to the late James Ashley Sr. and the late Rachel Ashley Wiggins.Willene was the fifth of ten siblings, four of whom preceded her in death: Isaiah, William, Mildred and Mary Ashley.
A TIME TO Learn: Willene was educated through Miami Dade County Public Schools, graduating from Miami Northwestern High School in 1972. She continued her studies at Miami Dade Community College where she earned an Associate Degree in Business Administration.
A TIME TO worship: Willene was a dedicated member of Dayspring Missionary Baptist Church early in life. When she moved from Miami, she became a member of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia where she served on the Usher Board and in the Choir. After she returned to Miami, she became a faithful member of Peaceful Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the pastoral care of Rev. Dr. C.P. Preston and Rev. Clinton Preston until her untimely transition.
A TIME TO work and serve: Willene was blessed with many job opportunities throughout the Miami Dade Public Schools Transportation Department. She started as a school bus driver and eagerly worked her way up to Route Specialist within the Miami Dade Public Schools Transportation Department. However, retirement days got the best of her so she entered into the classroom as a Teacher Assistant. She loved getting out each morning, having something to do, and being with the students she cared for daily.
A TIME TO LAUGH: Willene was serious about her education and her family. She was passionate about enjoying life to the fullest. She loved her: Young & The Restless, Western Movies, her Church Family, Northwestern Class of 1972, Thrifting, Road Trips and anything on the ID Channel. She could make a pot of Collard Greens or Lima beans accompanied with her crispy fried chicken that would make any Sunday gathering come to life. We cannot forget the sweet tea and homemade cornbread!
A TIME TO LOVE: Willene's Life Partner, Lonzo Williams, was the "Boy Next Door" and the absolute love of her life.
A Time to Transition: On March 10, 2025, at Aventura Hospital, 4:30 pm Willene Ashley gently laid her head in the arms of her Savior and quietly slipped into her eternal rest.
